Welcome to the
Fortinet cyber security challenge
What is the
Fortinet cyber security challenge?
The Fortinet cyber security challenge is a Capture the Flag event. A Capture the Flag event, or CTF for short, is a gamified exercise designed to test cybersecurity skills. The goal of the game, much like in the live-action, outdoor game many of us remember from childhood, is to get the highest score by capturing the most flags.
Flags for cyber security CTFs are usually short text phrases. In this CTF the flags are in the format of a phrase surrounded by braces, with the spaces replaced with underscores, and prepended with the code ftnt. i.e. if the phrase was "cyber security" the answer would be ftnt{cyber_security}
How to Play?Have you read the rules?
To play the CTF, you need to be in groups of a maximum of 4 people. The team will then need to register here>
Registration
- Pick a team name, and a team leader. Don't spend too long on this.
- The team leader should register first, and once registered, register the team name. Keep the team password simple.
- The other members of the team should then register, and join the team.
- Registration is available here.
Challenges
The challenges are in a Jeopardy format. If you're not familiar with Jeopardy, its a game shop where the players are presented a number of tiles. Each tile is worth a certain number of points.
The player chooses a tile and are given clues to try and find the answer. The answer will be in the form of a flag. There are also hints to help answer the question. Be aware, some hints cost points.
When the player successfully answers a tile, more tiles may unlock.
As mentioned before, the answer (the flag) should be on in the form of ftnt{answer}.
The challenges can be found here. You can view the scoreboard here, and the team list here.
